Solomon is lost, hungry and afraid and doesn't even know how to fly yet. How will he ever find his way home? Even though owls are supposed to be wise, Solomon is still young and has a lot to learn.
An owl and a seagull aren't usually friends, but the young barn owl, doesn't know that. So when he sees Cheeseface, he asks the seagull for directions. Cheeseface likes to live alone and doesn't want to be bothered. That's why Solomon's curiosity about Cheeseface's broken leg and strange name annoys the loner gull at first. But he is older and wiser than the silly little owl, and soon takes pity on Solomon. He promises to help him find his way home. First, he must teach Solomon how to fly, why it's important to have patience and other important lessons.
During their search for Solomon's home, they face killer waves, dangerous traps, and humans who try to capture them. There are a lot of questions to be answered too. Can a seagull and an owl be friends? Will Cheeseface reveal how he got his name or why he has a broken his leg? Most importantly, can Cheeseface keep Solomon out of trouble long enough to find his way home?
