This novel describes the painful and yet joyful journey of a woman who, after being raped, re-discovers her body. It is set in an exotic island environment and describes how Agatha is gradually ostracized from her community for bringing a malicious influence on the aging population. She finds herself in the paradoxical paradigm of being both master of the situation and also more and more thrust out of heart and mind. Ultimately she has to wonder if having gotten her vengeance was worth it, given the fragile character of this little island she loves and the deep threads of attachment that never cease.
