This book has been written based on the experiences of the author about the local farmer's knowledge on salinity problem, shrimp farming and the impact of shrimp farming on economy of local farmers and on the micro-environment of rice field in the coastal area of Bangladesh. Through this book the author tries to illustrate how the cropping systems have been changed from entirely rice based to boro rice and shrimp based. The comparative economic output from the two cropping systems namely aman rice-boro rice cropping system and shrimp-boro rice cropping system have been addressed. The book also disclosed the impact of those two cropping systems on microenvironment of rice field, especially on soil salinity and fertility level. Local farmers' technology to adapt that environmental changes in the rice field has been focused and how this changes of cropping system will affect the safety net and stable livelihood of the local farmers in the coastal area of Bangladesh has been discussed in terms of practicing shrimp and rice based cropping system.
