Fragments, a modern mystery novel, follows the escapades of two unfortunate individuals as they wander the streets of San Francisco; one is implicated in a crime he did not commit, another is not implicated in a crime he did commit. A night watchman, paralyzed with a fear of the uncertain future, is afraid to go home because of what might happen once he leaves his post. An artist's misreading of Shakespeare leaves him in a feverish state as he tries to hatch a plot to escape an investigation into his activities. A bike messenger, hired to deliver a mysterious package, searches frantically for evidence to prove that his neighbor has murdered someone, despite an abundance of evidence implicating his own self in the crime. A priest engages the other characters to rethink their faith in the power of words to make us who we are. As he explains to us, his name, Fodder, is pregnant with meaning and an appropriate name for a minister whose doctrine is 'Of the body, by the body, and for the body.'
