The Pupil
Henry James
Pemberton is a penniless Oxford graduate who takes on a job tutoring Morgan Moreen. As he spends more time with the brilliant eleven-year-old, he becomes very fond of him. Morgan's family, however, doesn't pay Pemberton for his tutoring, and what's worse, they don't pay their hotel bills either. Pemberton has to take another tutoring job to pay his bills. He must decide whether to save Morgan from his ill-fated family or leave Morgan in order to have a stable and easy life.
