This is a timely attempt to let the world know thefacts about woman high place in Islam. There areabout 117 verses in Holy Qur'an which dealt with theissues of women. Before the advent of Islam, a womanwas not a free agent in any civil contract. It wasthe right of her father, brother, cousin or any othermale guardian. She was not free to marriage, whethershe was old or young, widow or virgin. There was alsoa custom of inheriting a deceased man's widows by hisheirs, who used to divide them among themselves likegoods. The birth of a daughter was regarded ascalamity because of the degraded status of women. Itis against this back ground that we shall see thefar-reaching and humane reforms brought about byIslam and Prophet Mohammad [pbuh]. Many improvementseffected by Islam, Particularly the way in which ithas elevated the position of women. It is hearteningthat the situation is taking a turn towardimprovement due to better education in general and inwomen in particular.
