An Altranative Approach for Treatment of Cancer: a Preliminary Study: Interaction of Anticancer Drugs with Divalent Metal Cu (Ii); an in Vitro Study

With our study we can conclude that chemotherapeutic agents when illuminated may induce oxidative stress through generation of ROS involving endogenous copper that might, push malignant cells over the edge, increasing oxidative damage to a point that the cell cannot cope up any further and die either a cytotoxic death or commit apoptosis. This would essentially be an alternative, non-enzymatic and copper-dependent pathway for the cytotoxic action of MTX and 5-FU. Further studies on cancer cell line are however needed to confirm our findings.
