Design and Implementation of a Support Tool for Creating Multi-Modal User Assistance/Software Ergonomics means to develop a new method for technical writers which enables them to write nonlinear text, independent of a given structure. The information system IBM Corebank Information Center is an example for linear text structure. In a reverse engineering process the Corebank Information Center is analysed to see the problem in a linear text structure to provide personalised text for the users. Information models illustrate the structure of the users and content of the Corebank Information Center. Metadata are the result of the analysis. The metadata are used to mark up text units respectively Reusable Information Objects (RIO) derived from content of the Corebank Information Center. RIOs are tailored to needs and abilities of certain users. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) provides the possibility to define tags freely. The free definable tags are an approach for technical writers to mark up the written text according to users needs. Generally this book is of interest to people who have got an awareness of the importance of suitable information.
