Spinach for a Starving Heart Needles from a Bowl of Spicy Cactus Soup

MY POETIC OFFER TO YOUSPINACH FOR A STARVING HEARTNEEDLES FROM A BOWL OF SPICY CACTUS SOUPIn early teens the life of a young man is transformed. Testosterone reaches the brain and thoughts of electric trains take a secondary seat to thoughts of girls. Earning their affection becomes important. In addition to a stylish haircut, breath freshener and a clean T-shirt some of us added poetry to our arsenal of seduction. I did. As a teen I wrote songs and poems to make young ladies swoon. Success was limited. Thankfully very few of these early efforts survived. That was many years ago. But basic arithmetic says that if you write a couple of good poems each year for 60 years, you end up with many poems. Love occupied a large place in my life. But it was not my only focus. My restless mind occasionally exploded with the creation of bright visions that I crammed together in a kaleidoscope where images, sounds and ideas intermingle as they compete for space and attention. I have made a selection of these two types of poems and place them in front of you in the two volumes of this anthology. Volume 1 - "Spinach for a Starving Heart", offers sweet love poems to you. Volume 2 - "Needles from a Bowl of Spicy Cactus Soup", incorporates intense Kaleidoscope Poems. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
