After the apostle Paul had done some tent making in Corinth with Aquila and Priscilla, Luke tells us at Acts 18:5, "when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul began devoting himself completely to the word, solemnly testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ." We note "Paul began devoting himself completely." Why more so than before? Verses 9 and 10 go on to say, "the Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision: 'Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city.'" We too have similar reasons for devoting ourselves 'more completely to the Word of God.' Yes, unquestionably, God has "many people" in all the cities throughout the world, including our community. These ones need to be discovered and 'taught everything Jesus commanded.' The wait for Jesus' second coming will not last forever, so we need to be awakened to our responsibility of proclaiming biblical truths, teaching, and making disciples of those who have a receptive heart.
