Henry County was formed from the Western District of Tennessee in November 1821. The county is bounded by the State of Kentucky on the north, Stewart and Benton counties on the east, Carroll County on the south, and Weakley County on the west. The work at hand is largely a collection of abstracts or indexes to a number of the oldest surviving genealogical source records pertaining to Henry County. Following an informative historical introduction, Mrs. Whitley has compiled Henry pension lists for 1840 and 1863, will abstracts and indexes to will books covering the periods 1856-1863 and 1879-1902, various abstracts of estates, guardianship records, court orders, deed abstracts and legislative petitions, some early Henry County marriages, and brief sketches of prominent citizens who resided in the civil districts of Henry County. The work concludes with a surname index of several thousand entries.
