The Oxford Conspirators: A History of the Oxford Movement 1833-1845

A narrative history of the attempt by Anglican intellectuals, including J. H. Newman (who later joined the Church of Rome), to restore to the Victorian Church of England the character of "primitive Christianity". The Anglo-Catholic wing of Anglicanism has its origins in this movement.
