The Skateboard Bum, follows Erik White from 1980 to 1989. Tormented by childhood trauma and his mother's mental illness, he discovers himself through skateboarding. Inspired by punk rock and the writings of the beat generation, he finds himself on a quest for love, in this 1980's coming of age story. In this first novel of The Skateboard Chronicles, Erik and his friends travel the United States stopping along the way for front row seats to the Generation X, hardcore punk, skateboard subculture. The Journal he keeps traces the poetry of an awakening youth with fledgling Buddhist observation. They face the addiction of their parents, the struggles of being transgendered, they protest Apartheid and learn a deeper meaning of love
