The Ibizan Hound

The Ibizan Hound, like the name suggests, is a breed of dog that is a member of the hound family. The Ibizan Hound originated on the island of Elvissa and has been traditionally put to use in the Catalan-speaking areas of Spain and France. The Ibizan Hound is a lean and agile breed that is capable of hunting on all types of terrain and was mainly employed to hunt rabbits and other small game. The breed has an incredibly good sense of sight and smell which allows it to easy track small game. Hunters traditionally use packs of Ibizan Hound females as the female Ibizan Hound is considered to be a much better hunter. The Ibizan Hound will normally be completely silent during a hunt as it also uses its sense of hearing to locate prey, however once the prey is located and trapped the Ibizan Hound will normally bark as a signal to the hunter. While the need for hunting rabbits has died down, the Ibizan Hound is still a popular breed within Spain and France. The Ibizan Hound is now mainly used in dog shows, especially for agility trials, as it has a great degree of discipline, a high level of obedience, great agility and has a very powerful vertical jump. The Ibizan Hound has an elegant and agile frame but also has good bone girth which makes it a hardy and all around rugged breed. The breed's distinguishing feature is its large upright ears. The Ibizan Hound's coat can come in two varieties: wiry and smooth. Smooth coats tend to be very short while wiry coats (which are dramatically more rare) can range in length from 1 to 3 inches. The temperament of dogs is normally affected by the following factors: individual personality, heredity, training and socialization. It is therefore important to make sure that you meet the puppy's mother before purchasing a Ibizan Hound. It is also important to make sure to thoroughly socialize your Ibizan Hound with strangers, children and other animals during its puppyhood. Generally speaking, the Ibizan Hound is a very affectionate, intelligent and loyal companion that can fit in easily to any household environment. It is important to note that they breed has a relatively high prey drive and should therefore not be left alone with other small household pets to avoid any potential accidents. It is important to note that as a working breed, the Ibizan Hound has a high amount of energy which needs to be expended. If the Ibizan Hound has a buildup of energy it is likely to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom or hyperactivity. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet.
