Giraldus Cambrensis
Despite a frustrated ecclesiastical career, Giraldus Cambrensis (Gerald of Wales, c.1146–1220/3) composed many literary works, including in volume 1 his polemical-apologetic account of his life and his failure to secure the See of St David's. The Latin texts, with an editorial preface in English, were published in the Rolls Series in 1861.
