John Franklin
Sir John Franklin (1786–1847) was appointed Governor of Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) in 1837, but quickly clashed with colonial officials and free settlers. Recalled in 1843, Franklin worked hard to regain his reputation. He wrote this pamphlet, completed in 1845, to defend himself against the misrepresentations of others.
