His essays have appeared in Artforum, Art in America, frieze and October. He has organized exhibitions for such venues as Artists Space, P. S. 1 and White Columns in New York, and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. Since 1991, he has been Dean of Cal Arts. Since 2002, he has been Co-Editor of the influential journal, Afterall, and his selected writings were recently published by JRP/Ringier.
