'Taken In' is a psychological thriller set in the Uk and Australia. The story demonstrates the love and loyalty shown by two women, which changes their lives and that of many around them. Carrie, living in Sydney, is rescued from an abusive home at age ten by Marg. Normally an independent woman, she is rendered desperately lonely when Marg dies. Then Carrie meets and is initially repelled by Robin, an Englishman visiting Australia. Robin turns on a big charm offensive. Bereft, and with too few real friends, she marries him. But this is no love story. Carrie, on returning to England with Robin, finds out exactly the kind of man he is. She is driven to rescuing Sylvia, Robin's mother, from an impossible life and escapes back to Australia taking Sylvia with her. Robin follows, as do threats, violence and death.
