When a misleading story hits stateside papers that Mac was a "mercenary" grunt hired by the Army, the senior brass decides he needs to get U. S. citizenship. In this second Vietnam novel, Mac, a Canadian volunteer, is sent to Hawaii. During his 10 days there, he continues to get into trouble, makes new friends, scores with the ladies, shoots a troublemaker''s surfboard, and refurbishes WWII rifles to be used by snipers in Vietnam. Back in-country with a renovated .30-.06 Smith Corona rifle, Mac rejoins the Ranger unit where he feels at home. They spend their days and nights trail watching, gathering intel, snatching prisoners, saving other grunts, and killing an NVA general...all with deadly seriousness and loyalty to each other and to the Army they serve.
