Recently widowed Miriam Hamilton is having trouble adjusting to her husband's death. To jolt her out of her depression, Miriam's mother and children suggest she take a trip, meet new people, see the world. Miriam leaves on a six week tour of the Middle East - Greece, Egypt and Israel. Her first day in Athens, she meets the handsome tour guide, Nicholas Livornos. He seems attentive, but she isn't sure she's ready for a new relationship. She is still, irrationally, hoping that Jack is still alive. When she has a strange encounter with an old priestess on a lonely Greek island, that increases her worried for her own sanity, she finds Nick's concern comforting. Then she gets a note from Jack! He's still alive - and waiting for her. Or is it simply a cruel joke at her expense? Nicholas agrees that someone is playing a trick, but who? As they continue on to Israel, she and Nicholas join forces to discover who is plotting against her.
