Commodores is an American funk/soul group, which was at the height of its success during the late '70s - early '80s, when Lionel Richie was the co-lead singer. The members of the band mostly met as freshmen at Tuskegee Institute, later Tuskegee University, Alabama, U. S., in 1968 then signed with Motown during November 1972, having first caught the public eye when opening for the Jackson 5 while on tour. The group's biggest hit singles were ballads, including "Easy", "Three Times a Lady", and "Nightshift"; along with funky dance hits, like "Brick House", "Fancy Dancer", "Lady (You Bring Me Up)", and "Too Hot ta Trot". The Commodores were awarded their first Grammy for the song "Nightshift" in 1986.
