The story of the nine children of an Irish Evangelical minister left orphans at an early age and brought up by an aunt. Four of the girls followed the Lord's call to the Foreign Missions in China and preached the Gospel fearlessly amid constantly recurring dangers,one of them dying a martyr in 1895 in the Hwa Sang massacre. The central character is Inie Newcombe, missionary in China, pioneer Salvation Army officer in Japan, she ended her long journey of faith as a cloistered nun in Wales in 1936
