Around the World in Eighty Days is one of Jules Verne's most popular literary works, and with good reason. This novel is written only three years after another one of his great books, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This book is about an English fellow, Phileas Fogg, who lives by the same routine everyday. Every morning he would play cards with others at the Reform Club. After a discussion about an article in the newspaper that stated that it was possible to travel around the world in eighty days, Fogg took the challenge. He wanted to prove the others wrong and show that it was possible to make it around the world in this new time frame. This novel is perfect for anyone who loves to read fiction novels full of adventure. This story brings you from London to Singapore, to Yokohama, to New York City, and many more great stops along the way. You never know what they will use for transportation from trains to camels. There are many great characters you meet along the way such as Fogg's assistance, Passepartout. He is from France and has a great since of humor throughout the novel. Passepartout is loyal to Fogg and goes along with him for the journey around the world. You also meet Detective Fix who follows Fogg and Passepartout. He thinks Fogg is responsible for a bank robbery in England. Not only do Fogg and Passepartout have to make it around the world in Eighty days, they also have to stay away from Fix's traps and not get arrested. This book has been read by millions all over the world, yet is still as fresh today as when it was first written.
