Amy Madison's well deserved holiday in New Zealand turns to disaster when an earthquake devastates the city. She is thrown into the role of a temporary search and rescue worker to help save the hundreds of people who are trapped in badly damaged or destroyed buildings. Steve Jarrod, team leader for an elite search and rescue team based in Brisbane, is separated from his team when the quake hits. In a stroke of irony, his team had been sent to Christchurch to give lectures on how to survive natural disasters. Steve is desperate to save his team and seeks help from Amy. His new team mate is tiny but courageous and he quickly comes to realize what an asset she would be. He also realizes she would be a dangerous distraction and is determined to keep his distance from her emotionally. Never in her wildest dreams did Amy think she would become a permanent member of the team yet when Steve offers her the job, she accepts without a second thought. The team is deployed throughout their home country of Australia and overseas to help with search and rescue efforts. It is a hazardous job but Amy's greatest fear is that she will lose her heart to a man who only sees her as one of his employees.
