Spiritual Warfare: Understanding The System
Nelson Kay Williams
This is warfare...and the battle is raging. These are the perilous times of the last days. But we do have weapons. And they are mighty through God! He has given us His Word...the Blood of Jesus...and the name of Jesus. Too many Christians trust Christ, butnever do anything to prepare themselves for battle because they don't have right doctrine, don't adhere to biblical principles and don't understand how important it is to understand the system and know how the Scriptures apply to our daily lives. The relationship with our creator is not so different than our relationships with each other. At its root, it's only as good as the time we invest into it. It's only as strong as the trust we build through trials and tests. It's forged not in times of joy and splendor, but in times of adversity and trouble. This is why the Holy Spirit is called the Comforter. This is why to follow Jesus isto carry our cross daily. What does that mean to you? What does your cross look like? What are you willing to lose to carry the level of authority that causes demons to shriek and run for cover? What in your life would you change to have the kind of authority that could tell a tornado approaching your family's home to "be still" and then see it immediately disappear into the clouds? Because that's what Jesus did. And He said greater things than these we would do. To do this, we have to understand the system. God will move Heaven and earth to get you to where He wants you when you are obedient to Him. In fact, He will even send his angels to intervene in your life, if that's what it takes. If you dare to take the time to understand the system...all heaven will come to your aid - and you will be victorious!
In short, spiritual warfare can be defined as the conflict in the invisible realm that affects the visible realm. Amongst all the battles that have taken place in human history, none come close to comparing to the spiritual battle all Christians are engaged in. Many are weary: from job, marriage, family, life, and church. Everything that occurs in the visiblephysical world is directly connected to the battle being waged in the invisible spiritual world. The effects of the war going on in the unseen world reveal themselves in our strained and damaged relationships, emotional instability, mental fatigue, physical exhaustion and many other areas of life. Many of us feel boxed in by anger, unforgiveness, pride, comparisons, insecurity, discord, fear and the list goes on. But the overarching, primary nemesis behind all these outcomes is Satan himself and his army. We are living in an evil day; we are in a day when wrong is called right and right is called wrong, but we have to stand firm on the Word of God. Furthermore, don't imagine for a moment that you will be spared from fighting in the battle. There are no spectators in this battle. It is a battle that includes every man, woman, teenager, and child. The battle involves us all. There is no safe distance from which to watch. Satan was soundly and completely defeated at Calvary when Jesus Christ died on the cross. This event sealed Satan's fate (Colossians 2:14-15; 1 John 3:5-10). Even though the victory has been won and death has been swallowed up, the enemy still prowls around like a sniper, setting his sights on the unaware. Satan still battles even though Jesus finished it on Good Friday and victory was declared Easter morn.
