Elizabeth Robins (August 6, 1862 - May 8, 1952) was an actress, playwright, novelist, and suffragette. The Messenger, a sensational transatlantic spy novel, was written after Robins' popular book "The Open Question", when Robins decidedly approach the public market. Contemporary review was unfavorable: the Daily Chronicle as 'Wasted Talent' and in Truth as 'a very dead horse indeed'.
