Scott is often considered the inventor of the modern historical novel, and his style was imitated throughout the 19th century. His legacy has been debated ever since, but everyone can agree that he has remained influential. A Legend of Montrose is one of Scott?s historical novels set in Scotland, this one in the 1640s during the Civil War. It was published together with The Bride of Lammermoor in 1819.
