Diddlefinger, U. S. Marshal Little did fourteen-year-old Jack Roy Diddlefinger know when he set out for an evening of coon hunting that it would set in place a string of event, which would lead to up evil and death to which Eastern Kentucky, and Western Virginia had not incurred sense the Civil War. First he encounters a convicted killer who escaped from jail just before being hanged. Next, he finds himself being kidnapped along with Russell Jarmon, the convicted killer, by a gang of outlaws and taken on a journey to Virginia. This sets his father, U. S. Marshal Will Diddlefinger, on their trail, determined to bring his son safely home.
