The story switches to a contemporary American family sailing a rented yacht in the Caribbean when their teenage son Paul falls overboard during a freakish storm. He floats in a small life raft for several days before waking on the shores of Azsoma in the mystical realm of Ne'er. Meanwhile, Raven Blackbird, proud daughter of Chief Blackbird, decides to leave the safety of her village to go for a walk in the enchanted forest. She discovers that her husband-to-be, Thom, has followed her into the forest when a blue ogre attacks them. She also discovers she has forbidden magical powers to defeating the ogre. They run back to Vinewood village to inform Chief Blackbird that an ogre has invaded their sacred forest. Back on the shores of Azsoma, Alana, the beautiful humanoid daughter of Thaumas nurses Paul back to health after Paul is captured by Master Zkodder, Special Envoy to Lord Zygardo, the evil and supreme ruler of Ne'er. The blue ogre that Raven and Thorn comforted in the forest was only the beginning of an invading army of blue ogres, tree gnomes, and mechanical gargoyles. Under the advice of Raven's Grandma Autumn, the elder shaman of her village, Raven flees from her own village as Lord Zygardo's army is destroying it. Raven makes her way to Mirrorpond, the most sacred site of the enchanted forest, where she meets Cezues of the yellow giant clan and apprentice Ishmie of the mountain elves. These two are at the pond waiting for the return of Mother Terra, as foretold by prophecy. As instructed by the village shaman, Raven swims in Mirrorpond and is greeted by the wisp fairies and water nymphs of the pond. They gift her powers of wizardry and introduce her to the matriarchal ancestry of her blood. She is a wizard, given the task to defend the forest and defeat the evil forces that have invaded it. Behold, Mother Terra is reborn in the temple of flesh known as Raven. What will happen when Raven meets Paul? When the war begins between the magical peace-lovers and the greedy invaders of the forest? When evil threatens the harmony of the magical forest?
