Alex, a demolitions expert, just discharged from the Army, stops over in rural Washington to visit a Special Forces buddy. After he meets and becomes involved with Kate, the town darling, he learns of her meth addition. Alex now battles to save Kate and her son, Billy who is being heavily recruited by a merciless teenage gang, the Posse. When Alex meets Jack Blackfeather, the town's mayor, who befriends him. As they spend a lot of time chatting, Kate works at her bartending. Besides learning about the history of the town and it wild past, Alex begins to realize how the town survives by allowing the drug underworld to thrive. Jack also introduces him to Dathan, a notorious leader of a powerful NW gang whose empire covers several states. A suspense-thriller, theme oriented, the story revolves around a drug made by anyone, anywhere from anything. Although it could easily be a true tale, this is a work of fiction, more like The Grapes of Wrath than Traffic. Character driven by an extraordinary array of characters, the reader is easily carried away into a fanatical world few know exists. The plot, with it many twists and turns, promises to entertain and to hold your attention from beginnng to end. The first of a series of three books, a must read are Book II-The Goon Platoon and Book III-Beyond the Horizon.
