Publisher Marketing: Shedevrom Sterna bezogovorochno priznan Tristram Shendi (Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman). Na pervyj vzgljad roman predstavljaetsja haoticheskoj meshaninoj zanjatnyh i dramaticheskih scen, masterski ocherchennyh harakterov, raznoobraznyh satiricheskih vypadov i jarkih, ostroumnyh vyskazyvanij vperemezhku s mnogochislennymi tipografskimi trjukami (ukazujushhie pal'cy na poljah, zachernennaja (traurnaja) stranica, obilie mnogoznachitel'nyh kursivov). Rasskaz postojanno uhodit v storonu, perebivaetsja zabavnymi i poroju riskovannymi istorijami, kakovye shhedro dostavljaet shirokaja nachitannost' avtora. Otstuplenija sostavljajut jarchajshuju primetu shendianskogo stilja, ob#javljajushhego sebja svobodnym ot tradicij i porjadka. Kritika (prezhde vsego S. Dzhonson) rezko osudila pisatel'skij proizvol Sterna. Na dele zhe plan proizvedenija byl produman i sostavlen kuda bolee vnimatel'no, chem kazalos' sovremennikam i pozdnejshim viktorianskim kritikam. Pisanie knig, kogda ono delaetsja umelo, - govoril Stern, - ravnosil'no besede, i, rasskazyvaja istoriju, on sledoval logike zhivogo, soderzhatel'nogo razgovora s chitatelem. Podhodjashhee psihologicheskoe obosnovanie on nashel v uchenii Dzh. Lokka ob associacii idej. Pomimo razumno postigaemoj svjazi idej i predstavlenij, otmechal Lokk, byvajut ih irracional'nye svjazi (takovy sueverija). Stern razbival krupnye vremennye otrezki na fragmenty, kotorye zatem perestavljal, soobrazujas' s umonastroeniem svoih personazhej, ot jetogo ego proizvedenie - otstupatel'noe, no i postupatel'noe v odno i to zhe vremja. Chitateli-sovremenniki ob#edinjali Sterna s Rable i Servantesom, kotorym on otkryto sledoval, a pozzhe vyjasnilos', chto on byl predvestnikom takih pisatelej, kak Dzh. Dzhojs, Virdzhinija Vulf i U. Folkner, s ih metodom potoka soznanija. Contributor Bio: Sterne, Laurence Irish-born Laurence Sterne was an eighteenth century English author and Anglican clergyman.
