In the Net: Recollections of Salmon Netting on the River Clwyd by P. G. C. Longfield. For generations, man has sought to catch that most noble of fish; the salmon. In fast flowing rivers, in shady pools and in the sea, this prized fish has been the goal of anglers and netsmen alike. Each stretch of water is different, no two rivers are alike, netsmen on the River Teifi set their nets from coracles, on the Severn, baskets set in a wooden frame against the tide, and on the Cleddau what is known as compass fishing takes place. This little book sets out to explain the methods of fishing on the River Clwyd, and how local fishermen learnt how to take advantage of various pools and runs which nature had provided in their area. The skills and methods of fishing were carried on from family to family. Sadly, today this way of life no longer exists.
