The Adventures of Sly the Raccoon / Walking with One of God's Creatures

Meet Joseph, a young man who suffers from a nerve condition that causes tremendous pain in his leg. One day, Joseph and his father go for a hike with Joseph's pet raccoon named Sly, which he raised from a baby.

Joseph's leg hurts but he presses on, encouraged by the curious furry friend who walks alongside him as he tramps through the Gila wilderness of New Mexico. Though Sly sustains cuts and scrapes on his paws, he stays by his human friend's side, keeping him company.

You also get to hear some of the things Joseph went through while raising Sly before their big adventure. Joseph must deal with his brothers' anger when the raccoon bites them and many other challenges associated with domesticating a wild animal. Thankfully, Joseph's father guides him throughout the process, offering support and wisdom for the sweet friendship between man and beast.

The second half of the book tells the same story from the point of view of Sly himself as he shares his love and dedication to his two-legged friend.
