The Silent Contact
Genrich Krasko
A tragedy befalls a family. After 17 years of life filled with happiness, joy and fulfillment, the husband leaves the family; possibly for good. The family is thrown into turmoil of emotions, with a tiny thread of hope, in fact, a life-line to their loved one being the only source of their strength. This story would not have been unusual if the man were not... an alien. A remote cosmic civilization has established a "Silent Contact" with Earth: a few hundred Observers work on Earth; a few dozen in America. One of them, Yoram B'Aror, falls in love with and marries an Earth woman. At the time the story begins, they have a beautiful 16-year-old daughter and live in a small town north of Boston. In August 2002, their happiness is shattered when Yoram's authorities learn that he has committed a major violation of the Rules of Contact and order him to leave Earth. While Yoram languishes in quarantine in a near-Earth space station, Yoram's friend, an Observer in Israel, facilitates e-mail contact between Yoram and his family. The story of love, devotion, responsibility, and human tragedy unfolds through eight weeks of e-mail correspondence between Yoram, his wife and daughter, and his mother-in-law. The book is written under the name of Anna Baror, Yoram's wife.. It is both lyrical and thought provoking. It is also full of music (reader can listen to suggested live music on YouTube). Although having strong Jewish overtones and influenced by Jewish philosophical thought, the book can be enjoyed by all those yearning for spirituality; who are questioning and seeking to find the role of education in people's lives; who are trying to find life's meaning and purpose; and who wish to explore religion and the Universe as the home of human beings. The book may be of special interest to young parents.
