A Letter To A Young Pregnant Woman
Julie J Asuzu M D
Taking our opening of this book from a place of confusion and pain thirty years ago, the author was not yet the mature doctor she would later become. Rather, a scared young wife and mother of two small children. Full-time college students, she and her husband could barely provide a roof over their heads or food on the table. And then disaster struck: She became pregnant with what would be their third child. But was this a disaster? To say she was terrified is not an overstatement. Abortion seemed the only way, but when the time came to take that final step which would have resulted in the termination of her unborn child---she turned around and ran the opposite way to preserve life. A lesson she learned from her youth, never solve a temporary problem with a permanent solution. A resolve that told her: do not create a new problem in order to solve a temporary one. Fundamentally, she was taught, as a child and through tragedy, that politics and law cannot be allowed to take a child's life, that life is too precious to waste. An exhaustive search for assistance to her predicament led nowhere ... until she came upon one person who said to her, 'How can I help you?' She agreed to meet this would-be savior, a medical man and a man of faith, but they were not alone, not with God on their side. "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart--" Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us... We are like lamps---lighting the path for others who come after. When we help others we become instruments of divine intervention. This is a letter from Dr. Julie to a young pregnant woman in crisis. One of HOPE, amid whose message says: Dear God, Although I feel hopeless, I believe you will give me hope... We all need that hope in the form of HELP, SUPPORT, and LOVE.
