The Fontaneda story is based on a diary that was written by a man that was shipwrecked when he was 13-years-old and lived with the Calusa Indians. He was from Columbia, going to Spain, in the year 1545, and was shipwrecked on the coast of Florida keys and was returned to Spain twenty years later. When the King found out about his ability to speak several dialects of the Calusa Indians, he was commanded by King Don Felipe to return with Pedro Menendez in the Year 1565 to explore Florida, as a guide looking for whatever treasure could be found. A mythical spring that supposedly made people young again. This is a fictional story as to what could have been his life with the Calusa Indians. Also known as the shell Indians of Florida.
