Shooting the Dead

A solder of the French Foreign Legion is 'summoned' to an office in Lisbon. The mission is not one he wants. When he meets up with other agents in Portugal it emerges that he is not French, nor is he a Legionnaire, but the British secret agent Steve Steele. He again gets together with his secret lover, Autumn Rae. The bad guys, led by the Kommisar, are storing up a deadly gas for an attack from the air. Enter another ally for Steele; John Drake is with the Intelligence Branch of the SAS. Autumn is sent to Geneva. Dr Malcolm Leighton (Quartermaster) introduces Steele to some new equipment. Autumn is captured, she then finds another level to the plot; a plan to attack America with a nuclear powered Soviet submarine. Steele nearly gets killed in a gunfight. The SAS take Steele to an island which is housing the sub, after a lot of fighting the sub makes a getaway. The US Navy manages to track the sub, sinks it, and by then Steele and Autumn have been captured and are incarcerated in the chain locker of an old liner, which is about to be attacked by the US Navy. Three airliners, loaded with gas, are shot down on their way to bomb Ascot, Paris and Vatican City. Steele returns to the island, only to find the Kommisar escaping
