The Write Stuff

The Bridgeport Writers Group began in January 2010 at the Bridgeport branch of the Sullivan Free Library, Chittenango, New York. None of its members are professional writers, though it does count four published authors among its ranks, one of whom is originally from the Philippines. Whether published or not, they all enjoy writing and meet once a month to share their "take" on a specific subject or theme. The themes range from the serious to the humorous, from birthdays to sports to war. We have divided the works into the seasons of the year where possible, with an added section for works that could pertain to any season. The name of the author follows the entry. The members write purely for the fun and pleasure of doing so, the enjoyment in the diversity of the ideas, thoughts members might have on the same subjects, and the wide field of creativity those themes allow. In the beginning, some members found it difficult to write, but as time went on, it became easier as each person found his or her "voice" and could express thoughts more readily, and in turn, did so with more sophistication while remaining true to his or her "style." The selections in this volume represent the works of seven Group members, all with diverse backgrounds and individual ways of writing. We of the Bridgeport Writers Group hope these contributions might even inspire you to form your own writers group and tap the creativity of your friends and neighbors.
