Hcpro
This lesson on Deep Vein Thrombosis includes a complete training packet. Each in-service packet takes approximately one hour to complete and fully meets the Medicare in-service training requirements. As aides need training, you can make as many copies as you want - there's no restriction when used with aides assigned from your office location. Remember that Home Health Aides must have 12 hours of in-service training every year.
LESSON OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program, the home health aide will be able to: Name three causes of DVTIdentify three signs and symptoms of DVTDescribe two ways to help a patient with DVT
OVERVIEW
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a condition in which blood thickens and forms clots that plug the flow of blood inside of veins. The clot, called an embolus, can break free and travel to the heart or lungs, where it can cause death. In the United States, about 60,000 people die each year from pulmonary embolus (PE), embolus in the lungs. Home health patients are at risk for DVT and PE because they are confined to the home and sometimes on prescribed bed rest. Inactivity and bed rest are the leading causes of DVT.
This in-service looks at the important role home health aides play in recognizing the signs and symptoms of DVT, knowing how to prevent it, and knowing how to care for the patient at risk for DVT and PE.
