Joe has risen to the highest of respect, power, and riches but only to fall from fortune and hit rock bottom, and lose all self-respect. Getting high on his own supply, belittling and losing a dear friend to tragedy, and having the only woman who truly loves him walk out on him, sends him spiraling towards deaths grip as bad deeds he's committed catches up to him.
