This report was originally published in the Bulletin of the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, No. 604. Written during the year of the Great Depression, this report attempted to present a picture of American wages from early colonial times to 1929. In general, the policy was to select representative occupations in representative industries, and present for such occupations as continuous a record as possible of wages and hours of labor. In is in summary form a record of the holdings of the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
