The State of Israel Needs a Constitution
Shlomo Gabbay
This book is a contribution based on the author's life experience with the French and American constitutions. He lived in France for 3 years (1966 to 1969) as a medical student while Charles De Gaulle was the President. De Gaulle liked to speak about the advantages of the Fifth Republic versus the 4th Republic Constitutions. Gabbay quickly learned that Israel would benefit if it had a similar constitution. After retiring from Cardiovascular surgery, the author's main interest has been Judaism and its philosophy, as well as systems of governance, comparing the French constitution to the American. The book also describes that the American constitution needs some changes in order to prevent the present difficulties that America is facing today. Some suggestions are given to imitate the French system in certain aspects of the constitution. The Trump "Hysteria" is becoming a devastating underestimation of President Trump and it will boomerang against his political enemies. It is becoming clear that a de facto peace with Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States has been accomplished. Israel however has to be thankful to President Trump for forcing the Palestinian Arabs to "climb down the tree" and face reality and hopefully another Palestinian leader will finally agree to sign a peace document stating that the war with the Jews is over.
