Burglars and Bluestockings

Maeve Merritt knows magic exists--after all, she found Mermeros the djinni in a sardine can! Now Maeve's impressed by science, too, as she and her friend Alice take a summer field trip to Oxford to visit Cavendish Laboratories and visit Girton College, where, amazingly, women are students! But magical things still seem to find their way to Maeve, like a pair of flea-market hand mirrors that turn out to have special qualities. When Maeve and Alice look in the mirrors at exactly the same moment, they can see and hear one another!



But when the mirrors are stolen, and the theft appears to be connected to one of the most prestigious laboratories at Oxford, it's clear that forces beyond science are at work. Can Maeve and her friends stop the magic from falling into the wrong hands?
