Common Cries of A Black Soul
Lakeisha Reid
It's ugly. It's uncomfortable...but racism and white privilege are things that have plagued the world for far too long, particularly for Black people. In an effort to process my thoughts and feelings on the issue, I wrote songs and poems as the interpretation of my tears over time. This book is a narration of some of those writings, as I unveil my own encounters and previously hidden struggles as a Black person in America. Though the bulk of my stories stem from corporate, church, or personal experiences, the issue must be overcome everywhere, in every way. I believe it starts with both telling and owning the truth that only Black souls can express through these common cries. My hope is to empower transparency and initiate tough conversations for the purpose of healing.
