The story of Pinocchio, the puppet who after many scrapes, mistakes, and adventures, becomes a "real boy" has been a favorite of children for more than 100 years. There are many reasons for the story's popularity -- it is an epic tale full of danger and adventure, a character every reader old and young can identify with. A character who makes mistakes of judgment but who -- we always realize -- is possessed of a good heart, guided as he is by his fairy godmother. Those of us who have enjoyed the story before in whatever of the many forms it has taken cannot forget the puppet's original creation, his coming to life, his wandering away from the home of the woodcarver Gepetto, his falling in with thieves, being swallowed by a giant fish, turning into a donkey, and of course, growing a long nose. In this deluxe edition, translated from the original Italian with illustrations rendered in black and white by several different artists, the older reader can once again savor this story that never grows old (although we might), and the younger reader can enjoy it afresh, and revel in delight and amazement at the fantastical world the author has created for us.
