In 1968, Private Tom Moretti was deep in the Vietnamese jungle fighting the Viet Cong alongside his squad. Fifty years later, Tom is mourning the loss of his wife. His grief brings up older hurts: memories of friends lost and of lives taken. Tom's granddaughter Emily is about to graduate college and can't wait to leave on her trip through Southeast Asia. But when her grandmother dies, her parents decide someone needs to help her grandfather-and that someone is Emily. Together, Tom and Emily try to make the best of their trip. But Tom has trauma that may be too deep for someone like Emily to understand, and what he reveals about his time as a soldier in Nam may tear their relationship apart.
