The Eucharist is not just one sacrament among seven but the source and summit of the other six. This book examines the dynamic relationship between the Eucharist and the others, its primacy and centrality in the magnificent sacramental system and indeed in the Church's entire life - a theme that has not been much explored since Vatican II. It asks what precisely God is doing in the sacraments through the Eucharist, and why our knowledge of Christ and the Church, of the Holy Spirit, and of divine revelation and salvation depends on the idea of sacrament and on the Eucharistic reality, without which Christianity itself would be rendered meaningless and ineffective.
