It is 1870 and Charles Steward is courting the attentions of Mary McLaughlin. "Mary looked into his eyes, with not a trace of embarrassment - for why should she feel embarrassed, reader? Wasn't he nearly old enough to be her father in the first place - she had heard that he was going up to forty. And in the second wasn't he a Protestant? And in the third, wasn't he a distant cousin?"



Over 90 years ago Nora Feehan penned a series of short stories that have remained hidden away until their recent discovery. Feehan's tales, told with some wonderful turn of phrases from the time are charming in many ways and walk us through the simple lives of people from rural Ireland back in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
