Fourteen-year-old Jonathan Brooks would like nothing more than to relax and read a graphic novel. But GANGSTERLAND is no ordinary comic book. When Jonathan actually disappears inside, he's dropped into a world of dueling gangsters, a flapper with a fantastic secret and a murder that binds them all. He must decide to become the hero or the final page may trap him inside forever.

Middle school survival for Jonathan is to avoid being bullied by his neighbor Matt. His graphic novels and  drawing classes help him cope. But when a 1920's comic book pulls him inside its pages and he becomes a character, Jonathan must help Molly, a flapper and singer, from becoming the next murder victim. Only he can draw his way out of the book and he must find a way to bring Molly with him.

Molly's brother, Spencer is a power hungry gangster with murder on his mind. He'll stop at nothing to get what he wants and what he wants is Jonathan to disappear.

Jonathan learns the value of true friendship in this adventure story for teens that teaches us that we all have the power to be a hero.
