The Cabin offers a snapshot of what life was like through the eyes of children on a farm in Indiana in the late 1800s. A work of creative historical fiction, the story is a blend of fact and fiction based on the Herr family, whose members have farmed land in Boone County, Indiana, for six generations. The story follows the children of Benjamin Levi and Abigail Davis Herr over the course of several seasons, beginning in 1892. Photos and illustrations from the Herr family as well as The Boone County Historical Society are included. Originally intended as a children's book, it is for readers of all ages, especially those with a love of local and regional history. All proceeds from the sale of this book benefit The Boone County Historical Society.
A work section at the end of the book includes Enrichment Questions/Activities for Students.
